Sometimes a teenager or child needs a place to slow down and release the stress or pain that is causing them to act-out. In therapy they may choose to talk about it in their words or express their deep emotions in symbolic or non-verbal ways. This is how a teenager or child begins their own healing process and gradually finds a calmer inner place where they can resolve their important issues. When their center is touched or acknowledged, then, in their own way and at their own pace, they naturally start changing their old negative behavior and slowly begin communicating with their parents or caregivers on a deeper, more honest level.
Counseling with teenagers and children can begin in family sessions, group therapy, or individual sessions; however, typically as they improve through individual sessions, appointments with family or parents become more frequent. Often, the teenager's or child's improvement can be so significant that parents will elect to just continue individual sessions. In sessions, teenagers and children have the option of direct communication or the opportunity to use the non-verbal sand and symbols for deep expression and emotional resolution.
Teenagers and children still need connection with their parents, and counseling is one bridge toward reclaiming that closeness and increasing the ability to move forward together.
Offering individual, family, and group therapy sessions to help teenagers and children who are struggling with a wide variety of issues in dealing with living in today's world.
In addition to counseling, Mr. Wright is a published author. His book The Sexualization of America's Kids and How to Stop It is available now.
